BIOGRAPHY
Robert Collins is currently Professor of Urban Studies and Public Policy at Dillard University, where he holds the Conrad N. Hilton Endowed Professorship. He is also a political analyst, columnist, and keynote speaker.
As a political analyst, Dr. Collins appears on television regularly on WVUE Fox 8 TV in New Orleans. He serves as a live in-studio election night analyst for every election cycle, and he also comments weekly on breaking news.
In addition to domestic television, he has appeared on television internationally in London on the BBC Network and other overseas networks.
As a professor, he has taught public policy analysis courses for over two decades. In addition to Dillard, he also served on the faculty of Harvard University. While at Harvard, he designed and taught the first course in the US on the subject of rebuilding the City of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
As a researcher, he currently serves as Principal Investigator on a $750,000 National Academy of Sciences grant studying the socioeconomic effects of coastal erosion.
As an author, he has published on the politics of disaster recovery planning, and on the limits of mayoral power within urban politics.
He also serves as a columnist, writing a regular political column for Verite News.
As a leader and administrator, he was the Founding Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Dillard, creating a new college by merging and reorganizing three academic divisions. He also served as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at Dillard.
Prior to entering academia, he served as a Congressional staffer for U.S. Senator Bennett Johnston.
Dr. Collins holds a BA and an MA in Communications, and a Ph.D. in Urban Studies, all from the University of New Orleans.
